3 Mobile brings mobile broadband to its 10000th site

3 Mobile, one of the largest mobile operators has further extended its 3G network coverage in UK as its 10,000th site (located in Shooters Hill, South-East London) became operational last week. The ISP has already revealed its plans to connect 3000 more sites with its 3G networks in 2010.

Around 92.75% of UK population can now access its 3G mobile broadband service while 99.5% of the people can use its call and text services, the mobile broadband provider claims.

Second generation (2G) mobile networks are being used for basic services like voice and text messaging. By comparison, 3G (third generation) and HSPA are high-speed wireless technologies that enable the providers to offer up to 7.2Mbps mobile broadband speeds to their customers.

Growing Internet based communications, increased use of smartphones and the growing popularity of mobile broadband in recent years require the 3G mobile networks to have larger capacity and coverage to meet the demand, according to Graham Baxter, the CTO at 3 UK.

“Our network is already the biggest 3G network in the UK. Now we’re adding new coverage and capacity across the country to meet demand and bring the benefits of 3G to people who’ve never had access in their area before.” he continued.

3 Mobile is one of the mobile broadband providers that offer a wide range of packages to its customers. Launched last year, the ISP’s wi-fi based mobile router (MiFi) enables the users to share a single mobile broadband connection with wi-fi enabled devices like laptops, game consoles etc.
