World’s first commercial LTE mobile broadband launched

TeliaSonera, the Nordic mobile operator will offer the world’s first ever commercial, Long Term Evolution (LTE) based mobile broadband service to its customers in Stockholm in Sweden and Oslo in Norway.

4G or next generation mobile broadband uses Long Term Evolution technology that can offer up to 150Mbps download speed in cities and 80Mbps in rural areas.

In Sweden, the 4G mobile network was developed by TeliaSoneara’s technology partner Ericsson. Huawei offered technological support to the LTE networks in Oslo.

TeliaSonera would supply Samsung LTE dongles to its customers to access the new, superfast service.

LTE technology, as it uses a special band of frequency, has much more network capacity than the 3G mobile networks and can provide stable, super-fast speeds even during high traffic peak hours. With LTE, the mobile broadband users can make faster downloads, watch high-defintion video contents, play online games from anywhere they wish.

Ericsson’s President and CEO, Carl-Henric Svanberg said:

“The new era of mobile broadband has just begun today. With LTE, so-called 4G, your mobile broadband experience is moving to unequalled levels. The LTE speed gives you an absolutely effortless feeling of broadband access.”

Kenneth Karlberg, President and Head of Mobility Services, TeliaSonera said:

“We are very proud to be the first operator in the world to offer our customers 4G services.”
