Six rural communities to get BT fibre optic broadband
Broadband internet provider BT has today released the list of six rural communities that have topped its fibre optic broadband survey ‘Race to Infinity‘.
Consequently, the exchanges – Baschurch (Shropshire), Blewbury (Oxfordshire), Caxton (Cambridgeshire), Madingley (Cambridgeshire), Whitchurch (Hampshire) and Innerleithen (Scottish Borders) will be upgraded to deliver up to 40Mbps speed in the next 12 months. more »

BT to test 1Gbps broadband speeds in Suffolk
UK internet provider BT is to trial a new fibre broadband product that can offer up to 1Gbps download speeds, in Kesgrave, Suffolk.
The Gigabit/s speeds are achievable only via fibre to the premise (FTTP) network which will make up a quarter of BT’s fibre optic broadband rollouts that promise more than 66% UK coverage by 2015. more »
BT to use satellite broadband in Cornwall
BT will use satellite based broadband service while rolling out its £132 million high speed broadband lines in rural areas in Cornwall, it has been revealed.
The five year deal signed between the ISP and UK’s satellite broadband provider Avanti will enable BT to reach more homes and businesses using the latter’s infrastructure and services. more »
BT plans to extend its fibre broadband by reducing minimum speed
BT Wholesale said it would launch a new FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet) based broadband product that will enable customers who are on low-speed lines to get a minimum speed of 5Mbps.
By reducing the minimum threshold from 15Mbps to 5Mbps, fibre broadband can reach ‘consumers and businesses that have previously been unable to get fibre broadband over BT’s network because their line was unable to support the minimum speed of 15Mbps via their ISP’, BT Wholesale said. more »
Cornwall region to get fibre optic broadband
Broadband Internet Provider BT will deploy fibre optic broadband in eight Cornish villages to benefit more than 10,000 homes and businesses in the region by March 2011.
The £132 million project will be funded by BT (£78.5m) and the European Regional Development Fund Convergence ( £53.5m), the Press Association reports. more »
