New text messaging service for disabled people launched by Ofcom
UK’s telecom regulator, Ofcom launched a new service for persons with hearing disabilities. This trial service is sponsored by some top telecom companies, emergency services and the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), it was reported.
With the help of new service, deaf people can send text messages to 999 emergency services which will look into the problems and inform the concerned emergency services like police, fire etc. People will get replies by SMS, it was reported.
Users will need to register for the service, before they send the messages. Ofcom says, this service is only for the deaf people so the misuse of this service may be considered offence.
If the service is successfully received, Ofcom said, the full service could be launched by next year.
