Samsung sets to launch Galaxy 10.1 and Galaxy 8.9 internet Tabs

Samsung has given up its redesign plans for its new Galaxy Tab 10.1 internet tablet, confirming that the product will lauch in this summer as scheduled.

Along with, Samsung has also announced new Galaxy Tab 8.9 which gets launched in the third week of this month.

Galaxy Tab 8.9 is one of the two Galaxy Tab versions announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress last month.

The ultra-thin (8.8mm), Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 comes with dual-core processor, 8MP camera, wi-fi and 3G (HSDPA) mobile internet connectivity and is scheduled to be released on 22nd March at Orlando.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Tab which comes with 10.1″ screen, is so close to iPad screen in size.

Although Galaxy Tab 10.1 is designed to look slimmer than iPad (10.9mm vs 13.4mm), the device could still be a bit heavy comparing to iPad 2 which has a thickness of just 8.9mm.

Samsung which competes with Apple in global internet tablet market has suggested that it could delay the launch of the new Tab as it had to look into the features that its new device lacks, comparing to iPad 2 tablet.

However, latest reports suggest that the South Korean telecom giant could instead sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 at attracttive pricing to compensate the inadequacies so it can compete with iPad 2.

iPad 2 is likely to launch in the UK at the end of this month, with UK mobile operators Orange and T-Mobile have already revealed their intentions to sell the product directly to their customers.

Meanwhile, Apple is likely announce up to 20% price cuts on iPad so the iPad 2 can be priced at current iPad ranges.
