Cambridge Wireless to launch rural LTE mobile broadband trial

Leading mobile network provider Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Cambridge Wireless have revealed plans to launch six month, high speed LTE mobile broadband trial to benefit rural communities.

The trial will use low frequency 800MHz spectrum to enable Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks to provide fast, wireless broadband over long distance.

The service which is funded by East of England Development Agency will find out how the innovative technologies like LTE can bring high speed broadband to remote and rural places across the UK.

The members of Cambridge Wireless who will serve as volunteers are given four days time to nominate the place where they want the trial to launch.

It should be noted here that UK Communications regulator Ofcom is likely to announce the auction of 2.6GHz and 800MHz by year end.

In early January, Ofcom announced that operators can use 2G spectrum band of 900MHz and 1800MHz for extending and improving the 3G mobile broadband services.

According to Ofcom survey, one fourths of the UK (geographically) do not have basic mobile broadband infrastructure.
