O2 broadband adds 40886 customers in first quarter 2010

Internet Service Provider, O2 has added 40,886 new customers to its landline broadband base during first quarter 2010, according to its latest quarterly results. This compares to the 64,388 net additions made in the previous quarter (Q4 2009) showing a marked decline in quarterly numbers.

However, O2 has managed to increase its fixed line broadband customer base by 56% year on year while its mobile customers have increased by 12% in the 12 month period to reach 21.4 million.

The total base of O2 fixed broadband also includes BE broadband which is a part of O2 Telefonica group.

Smartphones sales has also increased due to ‘the significant improvement in the quality of the base’, O2 said in the statement.

New O2 home broadband subscribers are now offered 3 month free broadband for a limited time while new customers who join O2 pay monthly mobile broadband plans on 18 month contract will also get three month free service.

Recently, O2 has launched its home phone service for existing customers and those who would bundle it with O2 home broadband plans.

Meanwhile, O2, which has signed with Apple to provide its mobile broadband service to iPad users, has announced the tariff. The cheapest PAYG offer, 500MB data will cost £2. There are also pay monthly options – 1GB for £10 and 3GB for £15.
