O2 mobile restore web services after hours of network outage
The network outage that affected more than a million O2 customers since Tuesday afternoon has been repaired and most O2 web services are being restored, according to the statement from O2 mobile broadband provider.
During the outage, Apple iPhone users were left without O2 mobile broadband service to access the internet or multimedia messaging, it was reported. However, O2 mobile customers on blackberry handsets and O2 pre-pay (PAYG) broadband plans were not affected. Similarly, voice or text services were normal, O2 said to the BBC.
O2 said it had not found the cause of the outage yet. However, we may assume that huge mobile broadband traffic from Apple iPhone users could have caused the outage on O2′s mobile networks. Recent mobile broadband analysis report from Coda research indicates how mobile broadband traffic globally has grown on incredible pace for the last two years.
Currently, there are 20.8 million O2 mobile customers in UK and more than two million O2 customers use its 3G mobile broadband service, according to the report from the BBC.
O2 mobile UK is the exclusive outlet for Apple iPhones in UK. The mobile broadband ISP has recently signed a deal with Palm Pre, the main competitor to Apple iPhones to sell Palm Pre smartphones in UK. Interestingly, O2 mobile networks need to be strong enough to cope with the huge traffic from these two 3G phones, once Palm Pre ultra phones hit the market next month.
