ISP Orange publish Connected Britain interactive map

Broadband provider Orange has released Connected Britain interactive map based on its survey on 3,250 people. The map which is live on the provider’s website lets you get more information about the major cities, towns and rural places in the UK and how the fast and reliable broadband access is going to impact them, their population growth and the work habits of the future generation.

Cities and regions that have better access to fixed line and mobile broadband services would witness a population growth of up to 150% in the coming years, the survey has revelaed. For instance, London’s population (which is 7.2 million, currently) is expected to increase by 40% while cities in West Country like Bath would witness even higher population surge.

Cities like Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield and regions like Midlands and Northern England would see a fall in population as many employees are morel likely to shift their locations when fast internet services become widely available. The study also shows that many employees prefer to working flexibly from a place of their choice and would consider it more important aspect when they choose their career.

Robert Ainger, Director of corporate marketing at Orange says:
“Our research found that a digitally connected workforce could change the face of Britain as we know it. Not only could the population itself shift, but the way we work could also fundamentally change.”

The report also indicates that broadband access and the flexible way of working would help the businesses to save more than GBP 30 million.
