Sky to launch online music store for broadband users

BSkyB has revealed its plans to launch new monthly subscription system that would allow its customers to download music using its broadband service. Sky Songs system, which would be launched in a week’s time, would cost £6.49 a month for limited downloads while the price for unlimited download service is yet to be announced.

Currently, online-music is offered by Apple’s iTunes and Spotify UK. Last month, Spotify was approved by Apple to provide its music downloading service to Apple iPhone users with a premium subscription.

It should be noted that the government, broadband service providers and music industry have all recently taken tough stance against the illegal file sharers, especially, of the copy righted music over internet. The government could pass legislation to punish the hardcore (illegal) downloaders with measures like disconnecting their broadband services while some service providers like TalkTalk and O2 have found their own ways to curb the online piracy activities.
