TalkTalk increases line rental and call charges

Broadband and Home Phone service provider, TalkTalk has raised its line rental charges from £11.49 to £12.04 per month with the new call plans are set to become effective from October, 2010.

The ISP has also increased various call rates with daytime call charges is to be hiked from 5.8p a minute to 6.4p a minute. Call rates for TalkTalk Mobile Extra subscribers will also see a three-fold rise from 45p to £1.46.

Talk Talk had to hike the cost of its landline services to match the prices set up by the market leader, BT, which announced similar price rise in July, the ISP said. However, the company still offers “the best value home phone and broadband services” a spokeswoman for TalkTalk said.

Standard international call charges will also see price changes while Talk Talk customers who move their existing phone connection to new location, will have to pay a fee of £49.99, up by £20. If payments are made after the due date, the one-off fee, which is currently £7.50, will be £10 from October.

BT has earlier announced that its phone line rental fee and the daytime calls would increase by 50p to £12.04 and 6.4p a minute respectively from October.

In June, TalkTalk increased the call rate for the daytime calls (7am-7pm) to 5.8p from 4.6p per minute and the recent revision of prices indicates a 40% increase in just four months.
