Tiscali broadband has been fully merged with its parent company, Carphone Warehouse, as the brand name has just disappeared from the UK broadband market yesterday.
TalkTalk, the broadband division will now have the the ex-Tiscali customers on its network, it was officially announced.
Carphone group, with its subsidiaries AOL and TalkTalk, has over 4.1 million broadband connections in the UK. Its main fixed-line broadband competitor and the largest UK service provider BT, has just reached five million mark recently.
Tiscali was acquired by the Carphone in May 2009 for £236m. Tiscali, which provided triple-play packages including phone and TV with its home broadband deals, was witnessing a steady decline in its customer base while TalkTalk continued to perform well in the recent quarters.
Charles Dunstone, CEO of The Carphone Warehouse, said that the rebranding would not affect the ex-Tiscali customers.
“For many of our customers this will mean a reduction in their monthly bills, others will see no change with the remainder getting a small increase. Any customer visiting our website can clearly see our tariffs.”
“We’ve gained a lot from the Tiscali acquisition, most notably TV and Portal expertise and some great people, but from today the brand name will disappear and our focus is on TalkTalk.”
