Apple iPhones’ vulnerability to hacks exposed

Security analysts said at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, that Apple iPhones are just vulnerable to hacker attacks like any other smart phone as the world’s No.1 internet enabled phones do have flaws, just contrary to the belief of many iPhone users. When iPhone is hacked, the victim cannot use the phone for making calls, sending messages or internet access.

Hackers can easily take over an iPhone by sending malicious computer code to the target via SMS messaging, the security experts explained the method that hackers use. As the users receive various types of SMS during their busy schedule, it is very unlikely that they would notice that their handsets are receiving hacking code.

Ironically, some of the attendants in the conference were expert hackers too. For example, Miller and Collin Mulliner, a Ph.D. student at the Technical University of Berlin has found a method to easily knock a victim’s iPhone off a provider’s network.

The hackers can break into the iPhones on any carrier in the world using this method, as the experts showed the successful hacks on iPhones that use networks of four carriers in Germany and AT&T Inc in the USA.

Apple was notified of this flaw a fortnight ago, however, the company has not patched it yet. Earlier, mobiles that use Google’s mobile OS Android had such a security flaw that was later repaired by Google. Now, Apple has been warned by the analysts to repair the vulnerability without delay since the information that is discussed at Black Hat conference would help the professional hackers to develop a iPhone hacking software in the coming days.

“Apple’s credibility and reputation could get hurt if they don’t respond. Positive buzz is good; negative buzz is much more harmful,”
