90 percent South Gloucestershire homes to access 24Mb broadband
Around 90% of homes in South Gloucestershire are set to access faster broadband of 24Mbps by the end of 2012, thanks to the broadband project funded by the local council and government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK).
It is expected that the deployment and upgrade will launch in the region by year end, after the the Council’s cabinet approves the fund of up to £2.2m in February.
The scheme will also ensure that all households in South Gloucestershire can get a minimum of 2Mbps speed as the Council is committed to tackle the digital divide.
With some rural areas are feared to be left behind, the project would help faster internet infrastructure to be extended to these areas, according to Councillor John Goddard.
“This combined council and BDUK funding will make a huge difference towards ensuring that they are not left behind,” the BBC News has quoted him as saying.
