Broadband survey to help superfast broadband campaign in Devon and Somerset

Broadband campaign that aims to bring superfast broadband to Devon And Somerset has asked the residents and businesses to respond to an online survey to provide information over the existing internet services and speeds available in the their areas.

A minimum of 10,000 responses would strengthen their efforts to bring superfast broadband, the campaigners believe.

The government has already approved £31 million fund to improve broadband internet infrastructure in the rural areas in the county.

It has been believed that only 4% of users in the region are connected to faster broadband networks while majority of broadband customers could access slow internet speeds.

The broadband rollout programme backed by the government through Broadband Delivery UK is expected to bring 2Mb broadband to every household and faster broadband of 24Mbps speeds to 85% by 2015. It hopes to deliver superfast broadband to all homes in the county by 2020.

The ‘Connecting Devon And Somerset’ campaigners have launched the survey that can be accessed on its site www.connectingdevonandsomerset.co.uk.
