Suffolk communities demand super-fast broadband rollout
- January 16, 2010
Local communities in Suffolk County are getting into action to bring high-speed broadband infrastructure in the region.
The County Council and businesses have launched Suffolk Broadband’ campaign and would urge the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) to fund the project that would cost over £5m.
EveningStar24 has qutoed Andy Wood, Chairman of Choose Suffolk as saying :
“Suffolk is a county characterised by generally poor broadband access and this is proving to be a significant disadvantage for business growth and community inclusion. Businesses not only lose out on contracts but also lose overall competitiveness against their better equipped peers in other areas of the country where broadband access is faster.”
BT, which is also a sponsor of the campaign, has recently released the list of 160 exchanges for its intial phase of upgrade to next generation broadband rollout. Norfolk communities, especially, businesses raised their concerns over their county not being included in the list.
Provider BT, however, clarified that ‘it is too early to conclude that any area of the country has been ‘excluded’ as only 25% of venues for the rollout have been announced so far.
