Thieves break into Digital Inclusion Team office and take away freelancers’ laptops
The office of the Digital Inclusion Team (DIT) had been broken into, and a few laptops were stolen, according to a report. DIT was setup as a part of Digital Britain to increase broadband take up across the UK.
The news was reported by Martha Lane Fox, Digital Inclusion Champion, on Twitter this morning:
“O bloody hell the #digitalinclusion office has been broken into and all computers taken
”
However, the information was later found to be a bit exaggerated. Tara Maynard, media advisor to the DIT came up with update on the theft details:
“A couple of laptops were taken from the office, but they did not belong to the DIT,” she said. “They were freelance workers’ personal computers and did not contain any sensitive information.”
Digital Inclusion Team, funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government has its office in the West End, Carlisle Street. The Metropolitan police were said to be investigating the case, The Guardian reported.
The government has setup the broadband campaign ‘Digital Britain’ last year with an aim to spread broadband connectivity across the country and encourage more people to use broadband.
