Cable ISP Virgin to offer 1TB 3D TiVo set-top box by year end
Cable broadband ISP Virgin Media will soon launch its next-generation TV service which can be accessed via TiVo-powered set top box.
The set top box which can store 1TB of videos, has a built-in cable modem that will enable the users to access internet apps and services directly on TV sets. Subscribers can watch hundreds of TV shows, videos, movies, HD/3D videos, catch-up and live broadcast TV, it has been revealed.
“We’re really proud of our new next-generation TV service which will appeal to anyone and everyone looking for the best of live broadcast TV, catch up, on demand and internet apps and services.” Cindy Rose, Executive Director of Digital Entertainment at Virgin Media, said.
Last year, Virgin Media has signed a deal with TiVo, the IPTV firm to launch new TV service that can better compete with on-demand services owned by the rival ISPs BSkyB and BT.
Broadband bundle provider TalkTalk is also set to launch its own internet based TV service by mid 2011. Alcatel-Lucent has agreed to build the broadband TV content delivery system for TalkTalk which has recently launched mobile broadband service exclusively for its customers.
