Faster broadband services boost Virgin Media Quarterly results

Cable Internet provider, Virgin Media announced its first quarter 2010 results. Total broadband customers now stand at 4.76 million while Virgin Media cable broadband customer base has added 38,300 new subscriptions during the first quarter.

The quarter also saw the fastest ever growth in its cable broadband base since the company was formed four years ago.

The demand for the ISP’s faster services like 20Mb and 50Mb continues as new customers who take these packages have nearly doubled (46%) in the recent quarter, the numbers show.

Super-fast 50Mb broadband base grew by 40% to reach a total of 57,900 in the quarter. Over-all, Virgin’s XL and XXL broadband subscribers represent 16% of all cable broadband subscription base.

Virgin Media also offers its 200Mbps trials in selected areas. The cable giant has also revealed its plans to launch 100Mbps service by the end of this year.
