Virgin Media for advertising real world broadband speeds

A recent survey by the cable broadband provider, Virgin Media has revealed that nine out of ten people get mislead by the adverts that refer to the maximum line speed which is not achievable by all customers.

People often get disappointed with the real world speed which is much slower than the advertised speeds, the study has revealed.

“We want other ISPs to acknowledge the speeds their customers are actually getting and urge the rest of the industry, Ofcom and the ASA to recognise the clear and urgent need for change and move towards advertising the average speed a clear majority of customers actually receive.” Neil Berkett, chief executive of Virgin Media told the Financial Times.

Meanwhile, Virgin Media has raised its one-off installation charges from £35 to £40. However, the free installation offer is available to the new customers who sign up for its high speed broadband packages (XL and XXL) and triple-play broadband bundles.

The ISP has also extended the special offer on its L package which cost just £5 a month for the first 3 months and £12.50 after that. This package offers download speed of 10Mbps and unlimited downloads.
