Greyhound passengers to get wi-fi on-board

Passengers of Greyhound, one of the UK transport operators, will get wi-fi broadband access during the journey, according to BWCS report. Greyhound, the inter-city coach service operator has recently started its direct services between London to Portsmouth and London to Southampton with fortry trips every day.

Vodafone 3G mobile broadband networks will provide wi-fi broadband service to Greyhound passengers at download speeds up to 7.2Mbps, it was stated. For the convenience of passengers, there will be power sockets at the seates for recharging laptops.

FirstGroup, an Aberdeen-based transport firm owns Grehound coach service which will use Icomera’s mobile Wi-Fi hotspot technology. Moovbox M200 Mobile Broadband Gateway provided by Icomera would connect the mobile networks (3G or WiMax) and the vehicles and will provide wireless broadband access to the passengers inside the coach.

Passengers with wi-fi enabled devices like iPod Touch, Blackberry, laptop, iPhone can access this service. M200 Mobile technology is also enabled with GPS feature so it can be used to locate the vehicle with online MoovManage service.

FirstGroup has installed Icomera’s mobile Wi-Fi hotspot technology on many other UK routes, and it has proved popular as well as reliable.”

Icomera reports that leading UK transport services such as Stagecoach, FirstGroup, Arriva, Go-Ahead and National Express have installed wi-fi systems especially on key communter routes as more than 50,000 passengers are estimated to access wi-fi internet every week.
