Launched in February this year, City Centre network of wi-fi hotspots has given wireless broadband access to the city authorites on intial phase. The joint effort between Lincoln City and AB Internet will now benefit the entire community – residents, businesses and even students at Lincoln University, the ISP said.

ITPro.co.uk reports Neil Tucker as saying:

“We are building the first sustainable UK Wi-Fi city networks and that sustainability gives us the latitude to provide bigger coverage,”

Darren Grice, a City Councillor said wi-fi network expansion ‘is a fantastic opportunity to bring this historic city further into the twenty-first century’. He continued: “It’s a good example of organisations working together to bring about something that will benefit everyone.”

AB Internet ISP says it would set a business model in rural areas where high-speed broadband service via fibre optic network is virtually non-existent. Tucker says wireless broadband is an innovative technology that can meet the broadband needs of the people in such areas.
