New Wi-fi spec for connectivity without Bluetooth or wi-fi router

A new technology will allow the users of wi-fi devices to connect to other wi-fi enabled devices without the need of Bluetooth or even wi-fi routers, it was reported on Cnet News.

Wi-Fi Direct, the new wi-fi spec designed by the the wireless technology firm Wi-Fi Alliance will help connecting multiple wi-fi devices within a radius of 100m at standard wi-fi data transmission rates.

As Wi-fi Direct specification turns the devices into access points themselves and uses wireless broadband for connectivity, there will be no need of wireless technologies like Bluetooth or even wi-fi routers, it was stated.

Wi-Fi Alliance plans to certify wi-fi devices for the new standard in 2010.

Recently, new wi-fi based mobile broadband service launched by 3 Mobile broadband provider UK, uses wi-fi router that enables its mobile broadband customers to connect up to five wi-fi enabled devices to share their mobile broadband connection.
