Wireless standard 802.11n approved by IEEE
Advanced wireless networking standard 802.11n has finally got approval from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Started about seven years ago, 802.11n has many advantages over the existing standard 802.11g. It was only in January 2007, the draft 2.0 which contains final version of this standard was released.
Bruce Kraemer, chair of the IEEE Wireless LAN Working Group, said:
“When we started in 2002, many of the technologies addressed in 802.11n were university research topics and had not been implemented,”
When compared to 802.11g which can transmit data at speed up to 54Mbps on a network, 802.11n standard is six times faster with 300 Mbps. 802.11n wireless standard is also more suitable, when it comes to better coverage.
