Vodafone Pro 4 vs Pro 3 – Which is better?

Vodafone announced Pro 4 Broadband on 29 September 2026. It is still in home trials and is due on sale later this year. There is no monthly price, contract length or setup fee yet.

The package you can order today remains Vodafone Pro 3. That is the current premium full-fibre range, with the Ultra Hub 7, mesh Wi-Fi and 4G back-up already in the box.

Pro 4 is the next step in that same Pro range, not a replacement that is live on the shop page.

Speeds and extras Vodafone listed for Pro 4

Trial homes on CityFibre full fibre have recorded 8Gbps download and upload speeds up to 6.5Gbps.

Vodafone’s examples include a 1GB file in one second, a 4K film in 20 seconds and a 100GB game in under two minutes. Those figures assume the line, hub and device can all use the extra bandwidth.

The extras listed with Pro 4 will be familiar if you already know Pro 3:

• Smart Modes, so you can give priority to chosen devices
• Broadband Xperts
• Secure Net Home

Vodafone and CityFibre have also completed a 10Gbps test on CityFibre’s trial 50G PON kit. That is separate from the live network. CityFibre’s national platform is still mainly 10Gbps-capable XGS-PON, and it already offers an 8.5Gbps wholesale product to ISPs. Mass residential 50G PON is not on sale.

EE, DIGI, B4RN and YouFibre already sell 8Gbps-class plans. Vodafone would not be first.

Ultra Hub 7+ on the new package

Pro 4 arrives with a new router: the Ultra Hub 7+.

Vodafone has not published a full UK spec sheet yet. What it has confirmed is:

• Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be)
• tri-band radios on 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz
• compact vertical design
• hardware said to support up to 10Gbps
• Super Wi-Fi 7+ boosters as the matching mesh units

The 6GHz band is the real kit change. It gives newer phones, laptops and consoles a cleaner, wider wireless channel that older dual-band hubs cannot open. Devices without 6GHz Wi-Fi 7 stay on 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Port speeds, antenna counts and wired limits for the 7+ have not been released. Treat the 10Gbps figure as a hardware ceiling, not a guaranteed wireless result in every room.

Pro 3 broadband plans and monthly cost

Pro 3 is a premium full-fibre package, not a part-fibre add-on. You pick a speed, then take the Pro 3 version of that plan.

Vodafone’s own comparison currently puts standard broadband from £24 a month and Pro 3 from £36 a month. Both figures rise by £3.50 on 1 April each year, so the from-price on Pro 3 moves to £39.50 in April 2027 and £43 in April 2028. Plans come with a 24-month contract.

The extra you pay is for the hub, mesh, 4G back-up, Secure Net Home and priority support, not for a different fibre cable. Line speed follows the plan you choose:

• Full Fibre 150
• Full Fibre 500
• Full Fibre 910
• faster Pro 3 multi-gig where the address allows: 1.6Gbps on Openreach, and up to 2.2Gbps on CityFibre or Community Fibre

Openreach uploads stay well below the download speed on those mid packages. CityFibre and Community Fibre plans keep download and upload equal to each other.

Current prices and switching credits sit on the Vodafone broadband deals page. Vodafone Together can cut the monthly bill if you also have a Vodafone mobile plan. Apple TV 4K and anytime UK calls stay optional through Xtra.

Standard plans use the Power Hub and Wi-Fi 6. You can add Super Wi-Fi to those for £7 a month. That add-on does not include the Ultra Hub 7 or 4G back-up.

Ultra Hub 7 on Pro 3

Pro 3 includes the Ultra Hub 7 Fibre, model FG4278VF, built by Sercomm. Security updates for this hub run to 1 August 2032.

Specs:

• Wi-Fi 7, dual-band only: 2.4GHz and 5GHz
• no 6GHz radio
• 4×4 antennas on each band
• Multi-Link Operation across 2.4GHz and 5GHz
• peak wireless PHY rate 7.2Gbps; a single 2×2 device tops out at 2Gbps
• 2GB RAM and 4GB flash
• two 2.5Gbps Ethernet sockets (one LAN/WAN, one LAN)
• two 1Gbps Ethernet sockets
• fibre optic port
• two phone sockets (FXS and TAE/FXS combo)
• USB port used for the 4G back-up dongle
• WPS and Wi-Fi buttons
• maximum fibre throughput through the hub: 2.5Gbps

That last figure matters. Pro 3’s fastest live plan is 2.2Gbps, so the wired ports on the Ultra Hub 7 already sit close to the ceiling of the current range. An 8Gbps line needs faster ports than 2.5Gbps if you want the full speed on a cable.

The matching mesh unit is the Super Wi-Fi 7 Booster (RP761BVDF). Vodafone includes one and can send up to two more if rooms miss the 10Mbps promise. If the guarantee still fails after the checks, you can leave the fixed broadband contract without an early termination charge.

The 4G back-up dongle holds 100GB a month and starts when the fibre line is down. It does not keep the hub alive in a power cut. Speed on back-up follows local 4G coverage, not your fibre plan.

Secure Net Home is included. Broadband Xperts watch the connection for the first 90 days, then Pro 3 customers get call priority. Who’s Home arrival alerts also sit on this hub.

Side-by-side differences

Pro 3 is the finished product. Pro 4 is the trial package with a faster CityFibre line and a newer hub.

Line speed: live Pro 3 tops out at 2.2Gbps. Pro 4 trials show 8Gbps down and up to 6.5Gbps up.

Hub: Ultra Hub 7 is dual-band Wi-Fi 7 with 2.5Gbps ports. Ultra Hub 7+ adds 6GHz and is described as ready for up to 10Gbps. Port layout on the 7+ is still unpublished.

Mesh: Super Wi-Fi 7 versus Super Wi-Fi 7+.

Networks: Pro 3 is sold on Openreach, CityFibre and Community Fibre. The 8Gbps Pro 4 trials are on CityFibre.

Price: Pro 3 from £36 a month on 24 months, with the April £3.50 rise. Pro 4 has no public price.

Extras that look set to carry over

The Pro recipe is not being ripped up. Expect the same style of extras on Pro 4:

• mesh boosters and a room-speed guarantee
• 4G back-up if the fibre line fails
• Broadband Xperts
• Secure Net Home, now also managed alongside Secure Net Mobile in one app

Contract length and the annual £3.50 rise have not been confirmed for Pro 4. Do not assume they copy Pro 3 until Vodafone publishes the terms.

Homes that gain from 8Gbps

An 8Gbps plan is useful if all of these apply:

• CityFibre is live at the premises
• several devices can use multi-gig Ethernet or Wi-Fi 7 with 6GHz
• you move large files, run heavy cloud backups or keep many 4K streams and work links going at once
• the monthly price is not a large jump on Pro 3 2.2Gbps

It is a weak buy if you only need Full Fibre 500 or Full Fibre 910 for streaming, homework and gaming. Pro 3 already covers that, and the extra wireless gain from 6GHz only appears on devices that support it.

A typical household will also need a 10Gbps-class network port on any PC or NAS that is meant to take the full 8Gbps. Wi-Fi alone will not deliver the line speed to an older laptop.

Symmetrical full fibre on CityFibre already gives Pro 3 customers equal upload and download at 2.2Gbps. That is still a big step up from Openreach mid-speed plans, without waiting for Pro 4.

Wait for the price before switching

Pro 4 is a faster CityFibre product and a 6GHz hub, not a new extras idea. The extras you pay for on Pro 3 look set to stay.
