Included router

Nokia WiFi Beacon 3.1 is part of the current equipment range. Hey!’s Nokia mesh upgrade instructions replace an existing Adtran or Linksys router with Nokia equipment where required.

Existing homes may have an Adtran 854-v6 or Linksys MX4000. A router name alone does not establish compatibility with every mesh unit.

Mesh Wi-Fi upgrades

Additional Nokia Beacons extend coverage beyond the main router. The Nokia WiFi app manages connected devices, network information and parental controls. Mesh is most useful when walls or distance leave particular rooms with a weak signal.

Mesh Wi-Fi Pro can include up to three extenders, according to the home’s needs. The engineer assesses placement; the maximum number is not automatically supplied to everyone.

Put an extender where it still receives a useful signal from the router. Placing it inside an existing dead spot can leave it with little connection to relay. Mesh improves coverage but does not increase the speed of the broadband package.

Realistic speed and Wi-Fi expectations

Average package speeds describe the connection’s capacity. A phone in an upstairs bedroom can receive much less because of its Wi-Fi hardware, interference and the walls between it and the router.

For a meaningful fault check, pause other transfers and test by Ethernet. Compare that result with Wi-Fi in the affected room. Good wired performance alongside poor wireless performance points towards the home network rather than a need for a faster package.

Plans and everyday use

Choose by simultaneous activity and file-transfer needs. A household can own many connected devices without needing gigabit broadband; idle phones and smart plugs use little capacity.

Uploading family videos or backing up work can benefit as much as downloading. For occasional email attachments, however, the fastest plan adds little. Spend on coverage first if your main frustration is a room where calls keep breaking up.

Network and availability

Hey! supplies full fibre through a separate network rather than requiring an Openreach broadband connection. Fibre reaches the premises and connects through an optical network terminal, or ONT.

Coverage includes selected locations across Greater London, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, West Sussex, Hampshire and Hertfordshire. A nearby connected home does not guarantee your address is ready: the available route into the building matters too.

Check the full address before arranging a switch. If Hey! is unavailable, compare the broadband deals available at your home.

Installation and switching

Full-fibre installation

Allow up to three hours for a standard visit. The fibre may arrive overhead or through underground ducting. Discuss the entry point and router position before work starts, especially if the easiest cable route would leave the router far from the rooms you use.

Tenants should arrange any required landlord permission. Bespoke work can involve extra charges, which Hey! must agree with you before proceeding.

One Touch Switch

1. Check your current contract end date and any leaving charge.
2. Order the chosen plan and select One Touch Switch, supplying the existing provider’s details.
3. Follow the confirmed installation and transfer arrangements. Keep the old service active until the providers coordinate the change.

Do not cancel the existing broadband separately during a managed switch unless instructed. A new fibre installation can still encounter delays, so keep a mobile connection available for essential work.

Contract buyout

If you are still committed elsewhere, ask Hey! for a buyout quote before ordering. Its team considers the current provider and remaining term, with proof of the contract required.

The offer may take the form of free months or account credit. Get the amount, timing and any restrictions in writing. A buyout agreement is separate from the standard switching promotion; it should not be treated as an automatic cash refund.

Home phone, mobile and connected-home bundles

Digital home phone

The optional VoIP service carries calls over broadband and includes calls to standard UK landlines and mobiles. Ask for number transfer during the order and retain the old phone service until Hey! confirms the port date.

The router and fibre terminal need mains electricity. During a power cut, broadband calling, including emergency calls, needs suitable backup arrangements. Tell Hey! before ordering if you depend on a landline or connected care alarm.

Connected-home bundles

The following offers pair Gigafast broadband with different extras. They include an introductory half-price period, so the first payment alone gives an incomplete picture.

Confirm how the six-month discount interacts with an April increase for your activation date. The broadband offers use a 24-month term, but individual products can have different minimum terms. Changing or cancelling an extra may affect discounts and commitments.

UltraPlay Pro deserves comparison even if gaming is not your main use: its listed package cost undercuts standard Gigafast. A static IP can help with hosting or remote access, but does not by itself make games respond faster.

Mobile and security extras

Compare included mobile data with what you already pay for, and check reception where you use the phone. For Norton, check the renewal arrangement after the included period and avoid paying twice for security you already have.

These bundles cover connectivity and related extras. If television channels or recording are central to your choice, compare a dedicated broadband and TV service as well.

Is Hey! Broadband any good?

Hey! is particularly useful for households that need faster uploads without choosing a specialist business connection. Its shorter contract options also give it a practical advantage for people who cannot commit to two years.

Performance

The fibre connection removes the copper section that limits part-fibre broadband. The experience still depends on local faults, network capacity and home Wi-Fi. Neither a gigabit package nor a gaming bundle guarantees uninterrupted service.

Ask for the speed estimate and any contractual minimum for your order. An average package speed is not a guaranteed result on every device.

Customer support

Phone and live chat hours extend from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and 8am to 6pm at weekends. That gives customers evening access, although published opening hours do not establish how quickly a fault will be fixed.

For an unresolved problem, keep the fault dates, wired test results and correspondence. Hey!’s complaint process provides escalation to CISAS after six weeks without resolution, or earlier at deadlock. Individual customer reviews can offer context, but they do not measure performance at every address.

Value

Compare complete packages, especially at 900Mbps, where bundle discounts can reverse the expected price order. The strongest saving is the one that lasts across the contract and covers services you would otherwise buy.

Home working does not automatically require a business package. If downtime would stop trading, ask about the separate Home Worker or business service’s support commitment and backup needs rather than choosing on speed alone.
