What you need to know
Sky offers up to £200 switching credit towards eligible early termination charges from your old broadband provider. You normally need to provide proof of the charges within 90 days of your Sky service going live.

New full-fibre customers generally receive the Sky Max Hub, while customers taking Gigafast+ get the newer Wi-Fi 7 Gigafast+ Hub. This gives the fastest packages better support for high-speed devices and busy home networks.
What you can do with Sky broadband speeds
For most homes, Full Fibre 150 to 500 should be enough for streaming, gaming, video calls and several devices being used at the same time. Gigafast 900Mbps is better for very busy households, while 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps Gigafast+ are mainly useful for heavy downloads, uploads and multi-gigabit devices.

On the Openreach network, Gigafast comes with an average upload speed of 90Mbps. Sky offers equal average download and upload speeds for its 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps CityFibre packages.
Installation
Sky may activate an existing compatible connection without an engineer. A new full fibre connection usually needs an engineer to bring fibre into the home and install a powered optical network terminal. Sky confirms the appointment and any setup charge during the order.

This is a guide to choosing a package, not a speed guarantee. The address result decides which plans and upload speeds Sky can supply.
Sky routers
Sky uses three hubs across its broadband range. The hub in your order depends on your package and whether you already have Sky broadband.
Sky Broadband Hub
- Wi-Fi 5 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
- Gigabit Ethernet ports.
- Supplied with some older and part-fibre connections; existing customers may keep it when changing plan.
Sky Max Hub
- Wi-Fi 6 on 2.4GHz and 5GHz.
- Gigabit Ethernet ports.
- Generally supplied with new standard full fibre orders; supports Sky Max Pods with WiFi Max.
Gigafast+ Hub
- Wi-Fi 7 on 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz.
- A 10Gbps Ethernet port for a compatible wired device.
- Supplied with Full Fibre 2.5 and 5 Gigafast+; WiFi Max is included.
Sky WiFi Max
WiFi Max helps with weak wireless coverage inside the home. Sky can provide up to three Sky Max Pods after checking the connection. It also adds device priority, parental controls and security features through the My Sky app. The add-on starts at £6 a month and is included with Gigafast+.

Sky checks a reported coverage problem and may arrange an engineer visit. The promise applies inside the main home, not to a detached garden office, and does not promise the full package speed in every room.
Sky TV and broadband
Sky TV is a separate subscription you can add to broadband. Sky Stream works with a television you own; Sky Glass is a television with Sky built in. Both stream over your broadband connection.
Existing customers may also have Sky Q, a satellite box that can record programmes to its hard drive. Ask Sky whether a new Sky Q order is available at your address if you want local recording.

Sky Talk and Internet Calls
Sky includes Sky Talk Pay As You Talk with broadband at no separate monthly subscription charge. You pay for outgoing calls. If you call regularly, you can add a calling plan:

The inclusive call plans cost extra. Check Sky’s current call rates, excluded numbers and any call duration limit before adding one.
On full fibre, Internet Calls use a telephone plugged into the Sky hub. Both the hub and fibre terminal need electricity. Without backup power, the phone stops working in a power cut; it also stops if broadband fails. Tell Sky before switching if someone uses a care alarm, depends on the home phone for emergency calls or cannot get a reliable mobile signal indoors.
Is Sky broadband any good?
Sky has enough choice for an ordinary home without forcing customers towards its fastest plans. These are the points that matter most when deciding whether to order.
What is good
- Sky has plans for light use, busy families and people who regularly download large files. You can choose a speed that suits your home.
- You can add Sky TV to your broadband order if you want both services.
- Sky gives you a minimum speed for your home. If the connection stays below it and Sky cannot fix the problem, you may be able to leave without an early termination charge.
- Sky received fewer broadband complaints to Ofcom than the industry average in early 2026.
What is less appealing
- Sky is not a cheap provider compared with lower-priced alternatives. Paid add-ons, price increases during the contract and a higher price after the offer ends can push the cost up further.
- Standard broadband deals tie you in for 24 months.
- Faster plans such as Gigafast+ are available only in selected areas.
Our view
Full Fibre 150 is the first deal we would check for a typical home. Move to Full Fibre 500 if large downloads or several busy users regularly put pressure on the connection. Sky is also worth comparing when you want its television service. Before ordering, check the total contract cost and whether the supplied router will cover your home without WiFi Max.

You mainly want the cheapest broadband deal, need symmetrical upload speeds where your home only has access to the Openreach network, or prefer a shorter standard contract.

Sky broadband FAQs
Can I choose Openreach or CityFibre when ordering Sky?
Sky shows the network and packages it can supply to your home. You cannot normally choose a network separately.
Will Sky contact my old broadband provider?
For a One Touch Switch order, Sky handles the transfer. Check any charge for leaving your existing contract early, and keep the final bill if you plan to claim switching credit.
Will I get a new router if I change my Sky package?
Not necessarily. Sky may keep an existing compatible hub in service. Check the equipment listed in your new order.
Does WiFi Max cover a garden office?
No. Sky’s room-speed guarantee excludes detached buildings and other areas outside the main home.
Will my Sky home phone work during a power cut?
Internet Calls need power to the hub and, on full fibre, the fibre terminal. Speak to Sky about backup arrangements before switching if someone relies on the phone for emergency calls.
