BT combines its home broadband with EE TV, giving customers live channels, streaming services and free-to-air television through one TV box. The current range has five TV packages: Entertainment, Entertainment Plus, Sport, Sport Plus and Full Works.
You do not need a satellite dish. The EE TV Box Pro can receive television through broadband or a working aerial, while the Box Edge and Apple TV 4K use the internet. The right bundle therefore depends on the programmes you watch, whether you want to record and the broadband speed available at your home.

BT supplies the broadband and bills the bundle, while the television platform carries EE TV branding. Existing BT Broadband customers can add EE TV without changing broadband provider.

EE TV offers five packages covering entertainment, films and sport. Older names such as Big Entertainment and Big Sport refer to previous packages.

Customers can change their main EE TV package every 30 days until the final three months of the contract. The original 24-month minimum term still applies.

EE TV Box Pro
The Box Pro is the only current EE TV box with a hard-drive recorder. It can receive television through broadband or a working aerial.

EE TV requires working BT Broadband. Part Fibre remains available in areas without Full Fibre, while Full Fibre offers more consistent performance for streaming and multi-device use.

A faster plan is not always necessary

Smart Hub 3 and home Wi-Fi
BT includes the Smart Hub 3 with new Full Fibre orders. It uses Wi-Fi 6, has seven internal antennas, four Gigabit Ethernet ports and a 2.5Gbps WAN port.
The broadband speed reaching the hub and the Wi-Fi speed reaching the TV box are not the same. Thick walls, distance and wireless interference can reduce picture quality even when the broadband line is fast.
For reliable EE TV viewing:
- use the supplied Ethernet cable when the hub and box are close enough;
- place the TV box within five metres of the hub when using Wi-Fi;
- avoid placing the hub behind a television or inside a cupboard; and
- consider Complete Wi-Fi when the television is in a weak-signal room.
A faster broadband plan will not repair a Wi-Fi dead zone. Improve the connection between the hub and TV box before paying for additional line speed.
Package changes, extras and viewing in other rooms
TV extras let customers add content that is missing from the main package. Current options include NOW Cinema, Sky Sports on NOW, TNT Sports on HBO Max, Netflix, HD content and Asian Mix. Extras can be added or removed monthly through the online account.
Check existing streaming subscriptions before adding extras. Linking an existing Netflix account preserves the existing profiles and reduces the risk of opening a second membership.
For multi-room viewing, BT allows one or two extra EE TV Box Edge units with an Extra Box subscription. Each secondary box connects to the hub by Wi-Fi or Ethernet and can show a different live or on-demand programme.
Extra Box requires fibre broadband with a speed of at least 40Mbps. The Box Edge cannot record, and recordings stored on the main Box Pro remain tied to that recorder. The EE TV app offers another way to watch selected content on compatible phones, tablets, Fire TV devices, Apple TV 4K and Samsung smart televisions from 2017 onwards.
Contracts, price increases and complete bundle cost
Current EE TV packages come with a 24-month contract. Most featured BT broadband offers use the same minimum term, which keeps both services aligned.
On 31 March each year, the monthly broadband charge increases by £4 and the TV charge increases by £2. A broadband and TV bundle therefore rises by £6 a month at each scheduled increase. Out-of-bundle charges increase by 5%.
Calculate the complete cost before ordering. Include:
- the broadband and TV payments during every introductory and standard-price period;
- scheduled March increases that fall within the contract;
- activation, delivery and engineer charges shown at checkout;
- optional extras, Netflix upgrades and Extra Box charges;
- the cost of a TV Licence where required; and
- the price payable after the minimum term if you do not renew or switch.
Online and telephone orders include a 14-day cooling-off period. Cancellation after this period can result in early termination charges. The hub and TV box remain loan equipment and must be returned within 60 days after the service ends or BT can apply a non-return charge.
Ordering and installation
New customers can order a complete bundle in five steps:
- Enter the installation postcode and select an available BT broadband plan.
- Choose Entertainment, Entertainment Plus, Sport, Sport Plus or Full Works.
- Select the available TV box and any extras.
- Review the personal speed estimate, contract dates, setup costs and price schedule.
- Choose self-installation or an engineer appointment when offered.
Existing BT Broadband customers can add EE TV through their online account. They do not need to place a new broadband order unless they also want to change plan.
Self-installation requires working broadband, a compatible BT hub, an HDMI television and a nearby power socket. A TV aerial is optional for Box Pro and unnecessary for Box Edge or Apple TV 4K. Connect by Ethernet where possible, then activate the included NOW, Netflix or HBO Max memberships through the account instructions.
BT broadband and TV buying checklist
Before placing an order, confirm:
- the package contains every essential channel or streaming membership;
- the offer includes Box Pro if recording is important;
- internet mode has the free-to-air channels you watch, or the Box Pro can use your aerial;
- the personal broadband estimate meets any 4K sport requirement;
- Wi-Fi is reliable at every television using an EE TV box;
- existing Netflix or NOW accounts can be linked without duplicate payments; and
- the complete 24-month cost includes both scheduled annual increases.

Is BT TV now called EE TV?
Yes. New BT television packages use the EE TV name, boxes and app. BT still supplies the broadband and can bill the combined service, so existing customers can add EE TV to BT Broadband.
Can I get BT TV without BT Broadband?
No. A new EE TV package ordered from BT needs compatible BT Broadband. The television box uses the hub and internet connection for subscription channels, apps, programme data and software updates.
Do I need a TV aerial or satellite dish for EE TV?
You do not need a satellite dish. Box Edge and Apple TV 4K work entirely through broadband. Box Pro can also work without an aerial, although connecting one gives access to the full Freeview selection available at the home and permits more simultaneous recordings.
Can EE TV Box Pro record without an aerial?
Yes. In internet mode, Box Pro can record up to two channels at the same time. Aerial mode permits up to four simultaneous recordings. Some internet-mode BBC recordings play through BBC iPlayer, so availability and expiry follow iPlayer rules.
Can I watch Box Pro recordings on the EE TV app or an extra box?
No. Recordings stay on the 1TB drive inside the Box Pro and must be watched through that box. The app and extra Box Edge can show eligible live and on-demand content, but they do not stream recordings from the main recorder.
Can I keep my existing Netflix account with EE TV?
Yes. Link the existing account during activation to keep profiles, watchlists, recommendations and viewing history. Entertainment and Entertainment Plus include Netflix Standard with adverts, while Full Works includes Netflix Standard. Any membership upgrade costs extra.
Can I get Sky Sports and TNT Sports in one BT package?
Yes. Sport Plus combines TNT Sports with all Sky Sports channels through NOW in HD and NOW Boost. Full Works also combines both sports services and adds entertainment, cinema and Netflix.
Can I change an EE TV package during the contract?
Yes. You can change the main package every 30 days until the final three months of the 24-month contract. The change does not start a new minimum term, but the price and included services move to those of the selected package.
Which BT broadband speed is needed for EE TV?
HD viewing is available on BT’s fibre plans, but the personal speed estimate and home Wi-Fi quality matter. TNT Sports Ultimate requires broadband above 40Mbps. Full Fibre 150 is the best starting point for a typical home using EE TV alongside other connected devices.
Do I need a TV Licence for EE TV?
You need a TV Licence to watch or record television as it is broadcast on any channel, and to use BBC iPlayer live or on demand. You do not need one solely for non-BBC on-demand services when you never watch live television, although the usual TV Licensing rules still apply.
