BT and Sky add more than 100k broadband customers in Q4 2012Telecom giants BT and BSkyB have announced their broadband customer numbers for the quarterly period (Q4 2012) that ended on 31st December, 2012.

BT said its broadband customer based has just reached 6.569m with net additions of 122,000 customers during three months. The ISP’s superfast service, BT Infinity saw its total numbers increase by more than 200k in the latest quarterly period.

BT’s fibre based superfast broadband is currently available to more than 13m UK homes with the on-going rollouts are expected to extend the coverage in the next three years.

“We are passing around 100,000 additional premises every week.” said Ian Livingston,CEO of BTs.

“Take-up is growing strongly with around 1.25 million homes and businesses now enjoying the benefits of faster speeds.” he added.

BT broadband customers who have subscribed to its IPTV service (BT Vision) have reached 770k by the end of last year. There are more than 60k BT customers have take up the new YouView TV pacakge.

BSkyB which runs the brand of sky broadband reported that its total broadband customers exceeded 4.235m by the end of 2012. New customers who have taken up Sky broadband during the last three months stood at 132,000. The happy news for Sky is that nearly 3 million customers have also bundled its home phone service with their internet connections. Over-all 3.87m have subscribed to Sky landline rental, according to the report.
