Broadband Survey

A new broadband speed survey which was conducted in 2019 has revealed the fastest broadband providers both in download and upload speeds.

According to the report from Broadband Genie, small providers like Zen Internet and Hyperoptic offered much faster speeds when compared to the major operators like BT, Sky and Virgin Media.

In the standard broadband (up to 24Mbps) section, Zen Internet (8.3Mbps download) and Sky (7.7Mbps download) topped the table.

When it comes to superfast services (up to 80Mbps), Zen Internet delivered the fastest download speed of 38.5Mbps followed by BT (34.7Mbps), Virgin Media (34.2Mbps and Sky (33.4Mbps).

Ultra-fast services from Hyperoptic (211Mbps), Vodafone (168Mbps), Virgin Media (156Mbps) and TalkTalk (140.3Mbps) offered top download speeds, while Hyperoptic and Vodafone also offered the fastest upload speeds ranging between 136Mbps and 165Mbps.

Ultra-fast connections use pure fibre broadband (fibre to the premises) which is available in selected cities and towns in the UK.

Whereas, superfast broadband from these providers is widely available across the UK, and the top upload speeds were delivered by Sky (11.9Mbps), BT (10.9Mbps) and TalkTalk (10Mbps)

Standard broadband from Post Office ranked 1st for offering the fastest upload speed of 0.55Mbps.
