5Gbps Broadband Now Available from Community Fibre in London

April 4, 2025

Community Fibre

Community Fibre has launched a new 5Gbps full fibre broadband package for homes, replacing its earlier 3Gbps plan. This new deal is now the fastest home broadband plan available across London. It costs £59 per month on a 24-month contract and is designed for people who need high-speed internet for work, entertainment, and everyday use across multiple devices.

What Is 5Gbps Broadband and Why Does It Matter?

The 5Gbps plan offers 5,000 megabits per second (Mbps) for both download and upload speeds when connected with a cable (Ethernet). On WiFi, users can expect speeds between 600 and 950 Mbps, depending on the layout of their home and their devices.

Community Fibre’s Chief Commercial Officer, Peter Rampling, explains that this speed allows users to download large files in seconds, stream ultra-high-definition video without buffering, and connect many devices at once without slowing things down. For example, a full-length HD film can be downloaded in just a second.

For comparison, the average broadband speed in the UK is 69.4 Mbps for downloads and 18.4 Mbps for uploads, based on Ofcom’s latest report. That makes CommunityFibre’s 5Gbps plan over 70 times faster for downloads and over 270 times faster for uploads.

What’s Included in the 5Gbps Package?

The new package includes more than just fast internet. It comes with:

  • A Vantiva (Technicolor) WiFi 6 router
  • Extra Linksys Mesh routers, if needed, to cover the whole home
  • Custom setup by engineers to make sure WiFi reaches every room
  • Guaranteed coverage in up to 12 rooms (or three floors, including up to five bedrooms)

If they can’t deliver at least 50 Mbps in every room, CommunityFibre will give you three months of free broadband.

Features and Pricing

  • Monthly price: £59 (24-month contract)
  • Price is fixed until March 2026
  • After that, the price goes up by £2 each April
  • When your contract ends, the price increases by £4 more per month
  • No setup fee
  • No line rental required
  • 60-day satisfaction guarantee – leave anytime in the first 60 days without exit charges
  • Priority customer support and automatic network fault detection

New 2.5Gbps Plan

In addition to the 5Gbps launch, CommunityFibre has also quietly added a 2.5Gbps broadband plan to its website. It’s not easy to find, but it does appear when you click on the “Standard” or “Premium” tabs in the packages section.

  • 2.5Gbps Standard plan: £35/month
  • 2.5Gbps Premium plan: £39/month (includes Mesh WiFi)

This new tier sits between the existing 1Gbps and the flagship 5Gbps option, offering another flexible choice for users who want high speed at a slightly lower cost.

Network Reach and Competitors

CommunityFibre’s full fibre network now covers 1.35 million homes, mostly in Greater London. With this new 5Gbps offering, it joins the ranks of the UK’s fastest broadband providers. Some smaller providers like YouFibre and B4RN do offer 10Gbps packages, but those are usually available only in limited areas and cost more.

In London, the only other cases of 10Gbps availability have been in select high-end buildings, and not on a wide scale like CommunityFibre’s rollout.

Comments from the CEO

CommunityFibre’s CEO, Graeme Oxby, said they originally planned to launch the 5Gbps plan on April 1st, but postponed it to avoid confusion. “We didn’t want Londoners to think our unbelievable speeds were an early April Fools’ joke,” he said. “Community Fibre delivers unbeatable speeds and value all year round — and we’re serious about it.”

Do You Need 5Gbps?

While many homes won’t fully use 5Gbps speeds right now due to device or WiFi limits, the package is great for households with lots of connected devices, home offices, gamers, or anyone who wants future-proof broadband.

Even if some apps or websites can’t keep up with the speed today, this level of connection ensures that users won’t face slowdowns as the internet becomes more demanding over time.

Community Fibre’s 5Gbps broadband package brings a new standard of internet speed to London homes. With guaranteed full-home WiFi coverage, professional setup, no hidden charges, and competitive pricing, it’s a strong option for anyone looking for fast and reliable full fibre service. The quiet addition of a 2.5Gbps plan also gives users more flexibility based on their needs and budget.

Ookla has just released a detailed analysis based on data from millions of speed tests conducted via Speedtest.net. The report focuses on a persistent issue across the broadband sector: the mismatch between advertised broadband speeds and the real speeds customers experience in their homes. BT Confirms £4 Mid-Contract Hike for New Customers

BT has confirmed it will raise broadband prices by £4 annually for customers joining on or after 31 July 2025. This follows Ofcom’s regulatory update that replaced inflation-based mid-contract hikes with fixed, upfront increases. While the move brings greater pricing visibility, it also locks in steeper annual adjustments for consumers. The change affects BT, Plusnet
