Virgin Media is giving many of its TV customers a seasonal boost by opening up its 4K Ultra HD movie channel and highlighting a dedicated Christmas film channel through December and into early January, without increasing their monthly bill.

The promotion applies to Virgin Media broadband customers who also pay for a Virgin TV service and watch through one of three supported platforms: TV 360, Stream or the older v6 box. For the whole of December 2025, these customers can tune into channels 175 and 999, branded as Virgin TV Ultra HD, and watch a daily schedule of films and documentaries in Ultra High Definition at no extra cost. Under normal circumstances, access to this channel is tied to specific TV packages, so this works as a month-long free upgrade for eligible households.
Virgin TV Ultra HD is Virgin Media’s 4K showcase channel. To make full use of it, customers need a compatible Virgin TV box and a 4K television connected via HDMI. Those who have a supported box but only an HD TV can still watch the content, but it will display in standard HD rather than in full Ultra HD resolution. The broadband connection itself does not change as part of this promotion; it is the TV content that is being temporarily expanded.
Virgin has put together a schedule that tries to cover different viewing habits across the day. Families at home during school holidays will see family-friendly films in the afternoon slot. From 8pm, the channel switches over to documentaries, and from 9pm it moves into prime-time films each night. The examples already flagged include Hook, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Hacksaw Ridge, alongside the food and travel series Billy and Dom Eat the World. Virgin is expected to rotate other titles through the channel across the month, so the exact schedule will vary day by day.
Alongside the 4K promotion, Virgin Media is also drawing attention to a separate seasonal channel: Great! Christmas on channel 424. This is a dedicated Christmas film channel running festive movies on a near-continuous basis and, according to Virgin’s announcement, it will remain available until 6 January 2026. For Virgin customers, it appears in the standard channel guide and can be watched without adding any new packs, providing an easy source of familiar Christmas films throughout the holiday period.
For existing Virgin customers, the main benefit is extra content rather than a change in pricing or speed. Households that already have the right TV box and a suitable television can try out 4K movies and documentaries for a few weeks and decide whether Ultra HD content makes a noticeable difference for them. Families who mainly care about festive films may find they spend more time on channel 424 instead, using it as background entertainment through December and the first week of January.
There are a few practical points to check. First, the promotion is limited to customers who already have a Virgin TV package on Stream, TV 360 or a v6 box. Broadband-only customers are not included, and older TV hardware that is no longer being actively promoted by Virgin may not qualify. Second, anyone hoping to see full 4K quality should confirm that both their box and TV support Ultra HD and that the box is set to output at the correct resolution in the settings menu. If the TV is older or only supports HD, the channel will still work but the picture will not reach Ultra HD quality.
The timing is no accident. December is one of the busiest months for TV viewing, and broadband and TV providers often use this period to add short-term extras that make customers feel they are getting more for their money. In Virgin’s case, opening up a 4K channel and promoting an existing Christmas film channel lets the company highlight its TV platform without asking customers to commit to a more expensive bundle straight away. It also gives Virgin a chance to showcase the capabilities of its newer TV 360 and Stream hardware in homes that may not have explored Ultra HD content before.
If you have a Stream, TV 360 or v6 box, it is worth checking channels 175, 999 and 424 through December. Use the Virgin TV guide to see which films and documentaries are scheduled on the Ultra HD channel each day, and set recordings where your box allows it. If you enjoy what is on offer, you can later look at whether a package that includes Virgin TV Ultra HD all year fits your viewing habits and budget once the festive window closes. If not, you still get a few weeks of extra films and seasonal content at no extra monthly cost.
Customers who do not currently have Virgin TV but are considering adding it should treat this as a sample of what the platform can offer rather than a reason to rush into a new contract on its own. The decision to take a TV package on top of broadband should still be based on the full bundle price, the channels you actually watch and how it compares with alternatives such as Sky, Freeview plus streaming, or internet-based TV services. For now, Virgin’s Christmas move is best seen as a free festive extra for households that already pay for both Virgin broadband and TV and have the right kit to make use of it.
