With Plusnet, switching your service is quicker. You will need an active Plusnet or BT landline to get broadband from Plusnet.

MAC from your current provider (ADSL) is also needed to avoid loss of service, however, Plusnet allows you to sign up without a MAC code.

When you migrate from cable broadband, do not cancel the service until Plusnet completes switching and activates the line.

When you get Plusnet broadband, your are supplied with a free wireless router (worth £40) and you can also use other ADSL modems (including the one offered by the previous ISP) with Plusnet service, however, the compatibility and router settings need to be checked first.

You can use PC with Windows OS (windows 98, 2000, XP, Vistas and latest Windows 7) or Mac (version OS X 10.5.2 and above) to access Plusnet service. Check to see that you have systems that have Ethernet port (if you want to use Ethernet cable), USB ports and compatibility with 802.11.b or g wireless standards.

Plusnet broadband tariff will change depending on your location. If you live in low cost market 3 area (+80% Plusnet coverage), Plusnet offers better prices and this can be checked out while you sign up.

Cancellation Policy

During the first contract period, you should give one month notice if you want to leave Plusnet after the contract expiry. However, if you cancel the service before the expiry, you will need to pay for remaining months of the contract when you request for MAC key.

After the signup, you have the right to cancel the service within seven days from the date of activation provided you have not used it during this period.

Provider Details

PlusNet launched its broadband service in 2000. UK’s largest fixed line broadband provider, BT took over Plusnet seven years later.

Until the late 2009, Plusnet was offering up to 8Mb products. In October 2009, the ISP launched its ‘premium’ service with superfast 20Mbps speed with an aim to offer better experience than its ‘Pro’ package which was tailored to meet the needs of online gamers.

The provider has also reduced the contract length of its home products, replacing the long 18 month contracts with 12 month contracts. The ISP has also brought a major change in its service cancellation policy. Customers can quit the service at any time without paying any cancellation fee which was usually the remainder of the yearly susbcription.

PlusNet has recently upgraded the speed of its Value package to 20Mbps (previously 8Mbps) and this deal offers 10GB monthly usage allowance. Plusnet Extra offers 20Mbps speed and 60GB monthly download limit.

You can add ‘Anytime Talk’ or ‘Evening & Weekend Talk’ plan to your broadband on a 12 month contract.

Pro is a high-speed package, optimised to make faster downloads, play online games and use VoIP applications even during peak hours. The deal offers 20Mb speed and 20GB monthly downloads.

PlusNet allows you to use your broadband FREE between midnight and 8 am as your usage during these hours is not calculated for billing.
