Global Broadband Affordability Index

The 2023 Global Broadband Affordability Index by Broadband Genie has placed the United Kingdom in the 22nd spot among 132 countries.

The study analysed the average monthly high-speed internet bills, with speeds of 60Mbps or more, in relation to the average wages in each country. The survey did not include countries with populations under 50,000 or those with unreliable data.

The findings show that the average broadband cost is £30.84 in the UK. While the average salary is £2,166.06, the internet bills account for 1.42% of an individual’s income.

Hong Kong offers the most affordable broadband, while the United States is placed at the 32nd position.

The UK performed better than Austria, Norway, Italy, Bulgaria, Belgium, and Ireland in terms of broadband affordability. However, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, France, and Germany ranked higher.

Within the UK, the fibre broadband plans start from £17 per month. Leading providers like Hyperoptic, Vodafone, Shell Energy, and Community Fibre offer more budget-friendly options compared to other providers in the market.
